Terms of Use

Effective: October 2026

1. Acceptance by use

By visiting, using, or viewing The Astronomer’s Atlas (the “Site”), you agree to these Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Site.

2. Educational publisher

The Site is a general-circulation educational publication about astronomy and space. It provides information and commentary of general interest; it does not provide individualized professional advice of any kind, and no publisher–client, adviser, or fiduciary relationship is created by your use of it.

3. Accuracy and availability

Content is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, timeliness, or fitness for a particular purpose. Scientific values carry uncertainty and are revised; computed sky data is approximate; third-party datasets and links are outside our control. We may change, suspend, or remove any content or feature at any time.

4. Limitation of liability

All viewers agree that under no circumstances will the Site, its operators, partners, officers, employees, affiliates, or agents be held liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or special loss or damage of any kind caused by reliance on information obtained on the Site, or arising from its use or unavailability, to the maximum extent permitted by law.

5. Intellectual property

Original text and design are © the Site’s operators. NASA-produced material is used in accordance with NASA Media Usage Guidelines and is generally not subject to U.S. copyright — NASA logos and identifiers are protected, third-party rights apply where indicated, and NASA does not endorse this Site. ESA imagery is used under ESA terms with individual credits shown; ESA does not endorse this Site. The star catalog derives from the HYG database v4.1 (CC BY-SA 4.0, © David Nash/Astronexus); star-map data is used under the BSD-3 license (© Olaf Frohn); news headlines and brief snippets remain the property of their publishers. You may quote brief excerpts of our original text with attribution and a link; systematic scraping or republication requires permission — except the public API, which may be used per the notes on the API page.

6. Acceptable use

Do not disrupt the Site, attempt unauthorized access, or use it to violate law. The contact form and email signup must not be used for spam or automated abuse.

7. Third-party services

Outbound links (news publishers, data archives, official sources) lead to independent sites with their own terms and privacy practices.

8. Changes

These terms may be updated; the effective date above changes when they are. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.

Operating entity details will be published here when finalized.
